You share a house and two calendars. The phones go to bed with you. Dinner is a screen. Touch is rare. Maybe porn filled the gap. Maybe you just stopped asking. In 2026 a cold marriage can look functional from the driveway. Inside, you already live like roommates who used to be in love.
Stay. Cold is a wound. It is not a license to walk out.
I am not talking about a house where you are in danger. If you are being hurt, get safe and tell someone today. Call us. That is not "working on communication." This page is about the other common story: no affair you can name, no bruises, just ice.
God joined you. You do not get to unjoin yourselves because the feeling died. Feelings follow what you practice. Many couples practiced parallel lives until the covenant felt theoretical.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5:25 (ESV)
He answered, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." Matthew 19:4-6 (ESV)
The Baptist Faith and Message 2000, Article XVIII, says, "Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime." It also says a husband is "to love his wife as Christ loved the church" and a wife is "to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband." The 1689 Confession, chapter 25, says marriage was "ordained for the mutual help of husband and wife." Mutual help is work. It is not a mood. A cold house is a call to that work, not a proof the covenant expired.
Start with you. The 1689, chapter 15, says "it is everyone's duty to repent of each specific, known sin specifically." Name yours. The phone. The scorekeeping. The silence you use as a weapon. The porn. Christ loved the church when she was not warm toward him. He did not wait for a better roommate.
One next step with Jesus: stay in the covenant and ask for help this week. If it is safe, tell your spouse you will not leave and you will not fake it. Then sit with a counselor who will open the Bible, not only a feeling chart. If you do not know Christ, the marriage cannot be warmer than the two people in it. Come to him first.
We will walk with you. Ask for biblical counseling. Read the gospel. Take a next step if you have been a Christian in name and a stranger at home.
